Pushing the Limits

TecShield Elite Takes On the 2026 Heart Mountain Challenge

When it comes to proving what your team and gear are truly made of, you don’t look for the easy road. You look for the highest, windiest, most rugged mountain terrain you can find.

That is exactly why Tec Shield Elite is heading north to Cody, Wyoming, to compete in the 2026 Heart Mountain Challenge.  If you are competing or Just attending, say hi to Jim Shepard who will be on the mountain with you.

This isn't just another shooting match. It is a grueling, two-day, high-altitude precision rifle competition that tests the absolute limits of skill, equipment, and mental endurance. More importantly, it’s a mission with a deeply profound cause: supporting the families of our nation's fallen heroes through the Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF).

Here is a look at what the Tec Shield Elite team is preparing to face, why this challenge matters, and how we are gearing up for the mountain.

The Ultimate Test of Precision and Endurance

The Heart Mountain Challenge is legendary in the long-range community for a reason. Spanning over four square miles of punishing private mountainous terrain, the course forces competitors to adapt to brutal conditions in real time.

Here is what our shooters are up against:

  1. Altitudes Exceeding 7,000 Feet: At this elevation, the air is thin, breathing is heavy, and ballistics data calculated at sea level completely changes.
  2. Targets Out to 2,000 Yards: Engaging tiny, 2-MOA targets across massive canyons requires flawless execution, perfect rifle mechanics, and a masterclass in reading complex mountain winds.
  3. Extreme Angles & Shifting Winds: Deep canyons mean unpredictable wind tunnels and steep up-and-down angles that challenge even the most seasoned marksmen.
  4. Timed Field Stages: Competitors don’t have the luxury of time. Every stage demands rapid movement, swift deployment, and instant target acquisition under pressure.

Iron Sharpens Iron: Elite Competition

We know the competition is going to be fierce. The field features over 150 of the top marksmen in the country. We will be shooting shoulder-to-shoulder with:

  1. Active-duty and former Special Operators (Army Green Berets, Navy SEALs, Air Force Pararescue, and Marine Raiders).
  2. Law enforcement sharpshooters.
  3. The most advanced civilian long-range competitors in the nation.

For Tec Shield Elite, this is exactly where we want to be. Standing alongside the best of the best allows us to push our performance boundaries, refine our strategies, and showcase the reliability of our equipment when failure is not an option.

Shooting for a Greater Mission: SOWF

While we love the thrill of the podium, the heartbeat of this event is its charitable mission. The Heart Mountain Challenge directly benefits the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.

SOWF does incredible, life-altering work by providing complete "cradle-to-career" college educations and educational support for the surviving children of Special Operations forces lost in the line of duty, as well as the children of living or deceased Medal of Honor recipients.

Knowing that every shot fired and every dollar raised helps secure a bright future for these families gives our team an entirely different level of motivation. Winning is great, but giving back to those who gave everything is the ultimate victory.

Follow Our Journey

Our shooters have spent months calculating density altitude, practicing steep-angle shots, and conditioning for the thin Wyoming air. Now, it’s time to let the lead fly.

We want to invite the entire TecShield Elite community to follow along with us! We will be posting live updates, behind-the-scenes footage from the high-altitude stages, and exclusive looks at our match gear setups.

  • When: June 27–28, 2026
